Curries of Reunion Island Cooking Class - £137

This class is for you if you are a big curry fan!

10am until 3pm Cottenham, Cambridge

What will you learn in this unique curry class?

Reunion Island, where I was born, is a French colony off the coast of Madagascar, a couple of thousand miles away from Mauritius.  The Island has seen many settlers, including Chinese, Hindus, and people from Madagascar, all of whom have had a great influence not only on its culture but, most importantly, on its food. Reunion Island curries take their influence from Pondicherry in India, the region was a
French colonial settlement until 1954, and many from that region traveled to Reunion Island in the late 17th century in search of a better life. Their settlement on the island has influenced Reunion cuisine ever since.

In this session, we will cook-up, an exotic starter using mango, lime, avocado just to name a few of the ingredients, a traditional “cari” this is a spicy and traditional dish using meat or fish, both are cooked in a rich turmeric sauce. In this session we will make 2 “cari” using chicken and fish, a rougail (a traditional side dish with chillies), a bean stew and rice, and a very exotic dessert (using papaya, mango, pineapple and rum).
Then, it’s time to eat. Take a seat at my table and enjoy the fruits of your labour.

This class is perfect to book as a family, with a group of friends or as a corporate bonding activity as you get to share a delicious table at the end.

(Unfortunately, due to its nature this event is not suitable for vegetarians nor specific dietary requirements.)

Meet Corinne Payet: Where Passion Meets Plate at Gourmandises Académie

For me, cooking is more than just a skill, it’s a lifelong passion ignited in my childhood.

Though I was born on the sun-kissed island of Réunion, it was growing up in the heart of Provence that truly shaped my culinary foundation. The vibrant energy of my Réunionnais roots, combined with the refined techniques of French cuisine, creates a unique blend that you’ll experience in every class at Gourmandises Académie.

I believe in adding a touch of sunshine to every meal, and you’ll find that reflected in my signature dishes, where I playfully incorporate tropical Réunionnais flavours into sophisticated French classics.

All the recipes we explore at Gourmandises Académie are my own original creations, born from countless hours of experimentation and a deep love for sharing delicious food.

It was an honour to have received three stars in the Great Taste Awards, a testament to the dedication poured into each dish. I’m thrilled to open my home and share these “gourmandises” with you, inviting you to discover new flavours and techniques in a warm and inspiring environment.
